We believe the most memorable books often begin with something real—a place, a time, a person, a memory, a question—and then take us somewhere unexpected.
Half Wild Press is an independent publisher created to give distinctive voices and compelling stories a place to be heard. We publish books that invite readers to look more closely at the world around them, whether through history, personal experience, culture, or the wonderfully complicated business of being human. As an independent press, we take a personal approach to publishing. We believe in working closely with authors, nurturing their individual voices, and bringing each book into the world with care and intention. Our goal isn't simply to publish more books. It's to publish good stories worth remembering.
We are particularly drawn to writing that crosses boundaries—between past and present, humor and heart, fact and imagination, the familiar and the unexpected. The books we publish may be different from one another, but they share a common thread: they have something to say, and they tell it in their own way.
Half Wild Press is based in Maryland and is building a growing community of authors, readers, educators, booksellers, and storytellers who believe independent publishing matters.
We publish stories with roots—and let them run a little wild.
